EMOTIONAL EDUCATION FOR SMALL PEOPLE

ChildRoots is a progressive and thoughtful learning community in the heart of Portland for families with young children ages six weeks to six years. We make space for loud, exuberant play, plan for puddles, and take time for independence. We are more than just day care - we maintain nurturing and beautiful environments where children are treated with compassion, deep respect, and love. We strive to empower children to be their true, authentic selves. Through wonder, experimentation, and play; ChildRoots kids develop flexibility, resilience, and confidence.

We believe learning should be fun and without the confines of traditional educational methods. Through play-based learning, we ensure each child is cognitively, socially, emotionally, and academically ready for school.

FOSTERING KINDNESS AND CELEBRATING DIVERSITY

ChildRoots believes in respecting all people and celebrating diversity within our community. As educators, we strive to foster confidence, model compassion, and inspire mindfulness in our greater community. Our curriculum embraces inclusion, asks questions, and actively challenges prejudice, and we enthusiastically pursue resources and ongoing training that further our commitment to anti-bias education. We are proud to honor and celebrate diversity; including (but not limited to) race, national origin, physical abilities, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation and socio-economic status.

We choose curiosity and kindness over fear, self-confidence and asking questions over discrimination and hate. By teaching young children, we intend to make the world a better place, and we’re proud to build a safe community that celebrates all families and promotes empathy and compassion.

PLACING PEOPLE FIRST

Childcare is expensive and ChildRoots tuition is a bit more than the average. As a school and community, we are committed to providing our teachers with a living wage, excellent health and dental benefits, 401K with a four percent (4%) match and enough paid time off to provide a healthy work-life balance.

MISSION STATEMENT

ChildRoots’ mission is to foster independent thought through child-led art and science based inquiry while being strong stewards of our greater community and the environment.
