October News for Parents

Hello, ChildRoots families!
The air is getting cooler, nights are getting longer, the rain is back, and plenty of crunchy leaves line the sidewalks. Autumn is here! I’ve heard of classroom excursions apple-picking, hayrides and pumpkin patches, and excited chatter about upcoming festivities.

We’ve welcomed quite a few new families into our school community over the past month. If you see a new face, say hi! The beginning of the school year is always a great time to plan a class outing to Harper’s Playground or OMSI.
Upcoming Happenings

Wednesday, October 26 - Do you have friends in need of a dynamic, engaging preschool program? We'd love to have them join us at our Preschool Open House! Join us at our Northwest center anytime from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, October 26th to take a look at our child-centered classrooms, meet our teachers, and experience our art and science-based preschool program. Children (and adults!) will have a chance to investigate our materials, sample our food, and check out our curriculum hands-on.

Friday, October 28 -  Our magical Lantern Walk is fast approaching! Join us on Friday, October 28th at 7:00 PM at Fernhill Park. We’ll meet at the tennis courts on 37th Ave., just north of Ainsworth. Families will follow a lighted, windy path through the woods; collecting treasures from their favorite teachers as they go. Music and fire dancers are sure to delight! Costumes are welcomed – we can’t wait to see you there!

Friday, November 11 - All CR locations will be closed for Veteran's Day + Professional Development.

Halloween Costumes
We're so excited to see your kiddos' costumes...at the Lantern Walk. Costumes are highly encouraged at the Lantern Walk! For the sake of teachers and children, please ensure that costumes stay home from school. We want to make sure that the only clothing that comes to school is easy to move in, okay to get dirty, and doesn't cause any distractions in the classroom environment.
Changes to Billing + Enrollment Updates

We’re excited to announce a new, easier way to pay! Our e-invoices will now feature a way to pay your child’s tuition online. It's easy, secure and allows fast payment using your bank account. Online payments generate an immediate email confirmation and typically take one business day to post. Since paying online does credit your account so much quicker than paper checks, this is our new preferred method of payment. We plan to make this available for our Fremont school and the annexes on November 1st, and our Southeast and Northwest centers will be able to pay online on December 1st. Contact Esther in bookkeeping with any questions!
We love you. Don't leave us. ...But, if you must, we'd like to make it easier. Beginning November 1st, we're knocking a month off of our current notice policy -- instead of 90 days, we now require just 60 days of notice if you're reducing enrollment or withdrawing. To streamline that process, that change of enrollment form is now available online -- talk to your director for more information.
PCC News
The Parent Collaboration Committee has been an invaluable resource, and we really appreciate the time that all of your classroom representatives have spent at after hours meetings, and the thoughtful feedback that everyone has provided. The format of our PCC is changing so we can hear from all of our families. Our next PCC meeting will be taking place at our Southeast school on Monday, January 16. All parents are welcome to attend and share any all-school questions or concerns.
