Guided by our unique art- and science-based care philosophy, ChildRoots nurtures healthy growth and development in children aged six weeks to six years by encouraging play, open dialogue, and experimentation. We co-learn alongside our students in stimulating, modern spaces, and we're currently recruiting an artistic, experienced educator to fill an Art & Science Studio Teacher role at our Southeast Center!

Because we believe in the importance of the process of making art, rather than focusing on a prescribed product, our Art & Science Studio Teacher offers preschoolers time and materials for artistic exploration on a daily basis. Sometimes that means setting out creative supplies for those children electing to attend open art studio. Other times, they guide small groups on long–term, more involved projects.

The Art & Science Studio Teacher also collaborates with classroom Teachers to design new and evolving hands-on classroom sensory processes, each intended to scaffold art and science skills and conceptualization. Through repeated exploration of a variety of materials appropriate to age and developmental stages, students further develop their independence, curiosity, confidence and a respect for materials in the classroom.

A well-qualified candidate will possess experience in art and science instruction, preferably in a licensed child care center or school. Completion of college coursework related to art, science, and/or early childhood education is also a wonderful asset.

To work with us - or any licensed Oregon child care center - you must be enrolled in Oregon's Central Background Registry. Also, within your first 30 days of employment, you'll need to have or obtain an Oregon Food Handler's Card and Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification. You'll also need to complete Oregon's Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect and Introduction to Child Care Health & Safety courses.

We offer a competitive, transparent starting hourly wage of $14.00, opportunities for performance reviews and merit-based raises (up to $0.50/hour per review), paid time off, comprehensive, affordable health/vision & dental insurance, and we pay you for eight holidays & one week-long Winter Break each year.

A ChildRoots career begins with comprehensive training in our Reggio-, RIE-, and constructivism-inspired philosophy, and we also organize four onsite Professional Development Days per year to help you satisfy Oregon's continuing education requirements. Our beautiful, inviting environments are located in vibrant neighborhoods easily accessible by car, transit, and bicycle.
