Guided by our unique art- and science-based care philosophy, ChildRoots nurtures healthy growth and development in children aged six weeks to six years by encouraging play, facilitating exploration, and offering delicious, nourishing food.  We're currently recruiting a Cook to join our Fremont Center team! 

All food served at ChildRoots is organic, vegetarian and nut-free. We offer lunch and two snacks daily, served family-style under our signature "Take 5" plan, which incorporates a grain, bean, fresh fruit, vegetable, and dairy. 

Produce is served fresh, roasted, or steamed. Beans and grains have minimal seasoning. By serving a variety of nutritious, delicious foods in their natural state; children are able to acquire a taste for whole, unprocessed foods.

This role works less than 30 hours per week in the kitchen.  There is flexibility to make the role full-time by working additional hours in classrooms as break support and by helping out around the center.

  • Comfortable and capable of meeting strict service standards and deadlines under pressure
  • Experienced in a high-volume restaurant, school, or other batch-cooking environment
  • Comfortable doing dirty, unglamorous work like washing dishes, cleaning, and more cleaning

To work with us, you must be enrolled in Oregon's Central Background Registry.

Also, within your first 30 days of employment, you'll need to have or obtain:

We offer a competitive, transparent starting hourly wage of $15.25, opportunities for performance reviews and merit-based raises (up to $0.50/hour per review), and paid time off to all employees. For full-time employees (30+ hours/week), we contribute 60% of the cost for our comprehensive, affordable health/vision & dental insurance and pay for eight holidays & one week-long Winter Break each year.

Our Fremont Center is located in the vibrant Sabin/Alameda neighborhood, easily accessible by car, transit, and bicycle, and we offer hour-long lunch breaks to enable time for rest and relaxation during each day.
