SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

ChildRoots is a small family of locally- and woman-owned child care centers in Portland, Oregon. We see child as authentic, powerful individuals, and our mission is to guide their social and emotional development and to foster a sense of wonder about the world around them. Our awe-inspiring classrooms are child-focused and designed to provoke curiosity and encourage inquiry, but it’s our Teachers and support staff who make ChildRoots truly outstanding.

We’re excited to announce that we recently raised wages for ALL our employees and are currently recruiting teacher-qualified Substitute Teachers to start immediately!

These roles require applicants to be teacher-qualified, which means you meet at least one of these Office of Child Care requirements

A Part-Time Substitute works when they're available and when we need help covering for staff members who are sick or taking time off - a perfect role for someone looking for rewarding work but also plenty of time for other pursuits.

A Full-time Substitute works a guaranteed number of hours per week, filling in for ill or vacationing coworkers. This role is perfect for someone who's adaptable, adventurous, and interested in working on a regular basis and with a variety of ages.

All ChildRoots Substitutes start at $18.75 and are eligible for standardized annual raises and long-term commitment bonuses. Other centers and programs offer variable starting wages, but we’re committed to equal pay for equal work. When you receive a ChildRoots job offer, you won’t have to negotiate your wage or wonder how your offer compares to others’.

In the classroom, children’s needs are our primary focus, but – now more than ever - we recognize how much help and encouragement our employees need, too. On a day-to-day basis, we try to truly see each other and to offer emotional support and stability whenever we can. We’re immensely grateful to our employees for not only showing up every day, but for bringing their best selves.

One of the ways we show up for our employees is by offering excellent health/vision insurance (we pay 80% of the cost), dental insurance (we pay 80%), life insurance (we pay 100%) and a 401(k) retirement savings plan with a generous company match. We also offer paid Holidays, a weeklong Winter Break, a week long Spring Break, and three long weekends during the summer months and opportunities for professional development throughout the year to help everyone meet the Office of Child Care’s continuing education requirements.
